Wiki

Q. What is a Wiki?

A. A Wiki or Wiki Notepad is like a web page or text document that is stored in a special place, such as on this network. The Wiki is shared, which means that any authorized person can edit it. Changes made are stored, so that previous iterations of the Wiki can be viewed, as well (for example, if you want to know what just got deleted by someone else).

You can create sub-pages within Wiki Notepads, which are called "Wiki pages." Many people use the Wiki Notepad Home Page for their Discussion Group like a "table of contents" and link to the group's sub-Wikis from there.

A Wiki is not intended to be a full fledged HTML or Web document, nor to create beautiful documents for print output, but you can do some rudimentary formatting in it. These Help Files are part of a Wiki, so you can see some of the features. For more on formatting, see Wiki Notepad Text Formatting? You can copy text from a Wiki and paste it into a word processor or web document once the collaborative process is finished and the document is ready for distribution by other means.

Note that we capitalize "Wiki" in our Help files, because we are capitalizing words that pertain to the Community Network functions (like Discussions, Leader Stories, Libraries, etc.). It is acceptable to either capitalize "Wiki" or use lower-case for the initial letter.
