Inviting Or Adding Members

 
 

Q. How do I go about inviting or adding members to a Workgroup?


A. Inviting: To invite a Community Network Group Member to join a Workgroup, you must be a moderator of that Workgroup (see What can a moderator of a Workgroup do that a member cannot do? and Can I add another moderator to my Workgroup?). From the Workgroup home page, moderators can click Participants in the links in the left column.This will bring up a list of all participants in the Community Network. Find the Member or Members you wish to invite (use the alphabetical links at top to go from page to page, or the page links at the bottom of each screen), and click the check box in the Invite column next to each name.


After you have selected everyone you wish to invite, you will see a list of those selected under the display of the current Community Network Group Member page you are viewing. Make sure those are the Members you really want to invite. You will also see this message:


Enter a message explaining why you are inviting these people to your Workgroup. This message will be included with the email invitation.


Type in a message, such as, "Hi, this is Suzy, asking you to participate in our Workgroup for Members who love to play golf. I hope you join us!" You will see a message telling you that the new people have been invited, then click Invite People under that list. You will see a message telling you that your selected folks have been invited. You then see other choices for managing your Workgroup, in case you have other tasks to perform. You can click other links to go elsewhere on the Community Network at this point.


Your invitees will receive a message inviting them to join your Workgroup. If they wish to join, they will respond as instructed, and you will soon see them listed on the Workgroup home page.


Directly Adding: Please use this feature responsibly-- Members could conceivably become annoyed to find themselves added to a Workgroup without their permission. However, if you have started a Workgroup that you know a particular group of Members wants to be on, feel free to do this. To directly add Members to Workgroups, use the Participants link and chose Invite People To and go the the Add Members link. Once you click, you will find a similar interface to the one described above, and you will need to add a message, as described above. The only difference is that the Member is immediately added to the Workgroup rather than joining on her own volition.
